And just so you will know .
How is it, do you think, that as the school year is winding down, it seems that the pace is accelerating? This week we have particularly enjoyed reading about Gladys Aylward. The students have also eagerly absorbed our study of King David. I sometimes wish you could just hear some of their observations and parallels. I think you would be thrilled! In math, we have been honing our mental math strategies and tackling those timed tests. The students have taken to heart that we just won't quit until .
Please note again that Field Day has been postponed until Tuesday. Please follow the guidelines for dress: Stingray t-shirts, modest length shorts, and comfortable tennis shoes. Students may dye their hair, with your permission, of course, but it must be done at home. We have been requested to omit Silly String or anything messy. Hopefully we will even need to remember sunscreen!
We will need to take our weekly math fact timed test on Monday because of Tuesday's plans. The students will complete a study guide for next Thursday's Bible test, and we are looking forward to sharing our Science Fair Projects next Wednesday morning. I will open the classroom for set-up at 7:45 a.m. We will invite parents (and grandparents) to visit from 8:15-9:15, and we have also invited our First Grade Nutty Buddies to share in the event, as well. At 9:15, we would request that you take with you, as you leave, the exhibit materials so that the students won't have to deal with that chore alone at dismissal. Let me emphasize again that we see this as an introductory activity, and we encourage simplicity. There will be no prize winners, and grades will be based primarily on basic understanding and following directions. If you can possibly enjoy this with your child, please do!
On Monday, May 18, we will have our final get-together with our Nutty Buddies. Third graders in the past have often enjoyed bringing a small gift for their Buddy, but this is certainly left to your discretion and not a requirement.
Please send a strong shopping bag or tote on Tuesday, May 19. The students will be packing up their leftover school supplies and workbooks to bring home that afternoon, and their backpacks just won't hold it all!
On Wednesday, May 20, our final day of school, the students and I will begin the morning by discussing their individual character trait awards. It is always a privilege for me to share with them those special God-given gifts that I have seen them use during our school days this year. At 8:45 we will have breakfast, provided by our room moms, and we will celebrate our year together and the long anticipated arrival of summer break. All our activities will be completed at 10:00, at which time I will distribute the end-of-year packets. (Report cards will be mailed to you.) The students are then free to leave with you. (I'm thinking they will be ready and listening for the fat lady's song!)
This is your last edition of Catching On, 2008-2009. And, this final paragraph is hard to write! May I simply say that I have loved teaching your children. Their joy to me has been immeasurable. I can hardly wait to see how our good Lord will use them in the years to come. They, and you, will leave my classroom, but you will always remain in my heart, and my prayers for you dear C.A.K. families will continue. Please know that I will always be happy to see and hear from and about all of you. So, stay in touch!
